Discover The Rich History Of Messiah Lutheran Church
Messiah Lutheran Church has a storied history that traces its roots back to the summer of 1915 when the congregation held its first service in a Sea Isle City movie theater. Incorporated on November 30, 1915, we embarked on a journey marked by faith, growth, and service. Worshipping at the corner of 42nd St. and Landis Ave. until 2008, we later moved to our current location on Route 9 in Ocean View, embracing change to better fulfill our mission.
Over the past century, Messiah has evolved dynamically, responding to God’s call with resilience. In 1951, we commissioned missionaries to India, showcasing our commitment to global outreach. Ten dedicated clergy members have led us over the years, steering the congregation through various seasons of growth and transformation.
In 2022, we marked a significant chapter with the dedication of a columbarium at our Ocean View site, providing a serene resting place for the cremated remains of our members and friends. Our commitment to service extends beyond our walls, with active involvement in ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, the Doris Schofield Music Award, and initiatives like the Hope House Project and St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
As we celebrate over 100 years of history, Messiah Lutheran Church continues to be a beacon of faith, love, and community. Our journey is a testament to the enduring spirit of our congregation, and we look forward to the chapters yet to be written. Join us as we build on our legacy, rooted in the timeless values of worship, fellowship, and service.
